CWP Green Streets are Complete!

In case you missed the October Sustainable Sunnyvale, the Cleanwater Program’s Green Streets project was complete! This project consisted of six new bioretention rain gardens as part of the Caribbean Drive Improvement Project. The rain gardens remove pollutants in stormwater (rainwater) by filtering it through the soil and plant roots. The rain gardens treat stormwater from nearly 42,000 square feet of upstream urban areas. They also showcase nearly 30 native plant species designed to fit in with the surrounding ecology. These species use less water and attract native pollinators.

The Caribbean Drive Parking and Trail Access Enhancement Project was completed this summer and is part of the Sunnyvale Cleanwater Program. In addition to the rain gardens, the project included a multi-use path for safer walking and biking. It also provided parking spaces for Bay Trail users. This is officially the first green street project in Sunnyvale.
