Caribbean Drive Project Wins Award

The Caribbean Drive Parking and Trail Access Enhancements (Caribbean Drive Project) was awarded the 2020 Project of the Year Award for the Sustainable/Green Category by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Silicon Valley. APWA Silicon Valley Chapter’s Public Works Projects and Leaders of the Year Award was established to promote excellence in the management and administration of public works projects. The Sustainability/Green Award is given to a project that demonstrates contributions to promote sustainability in public works with the efficient delivery of infrastructure in an environmentally and socially responsible way.

The Caribbean Drive Project moved Bay Trail access away from the Water Pollution Control Plant construction zone and added a new multi-use path, separated from traffic. Part of the project included creating attractive streetscapes to enhance the surrounding area for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. This involved installing bioretention planters that treat stormwater and showcase nearly 30 native plant species designed to fit in with the surrounding ecology.
